First of all, we need to understand that we are not eating for survival. We are eating to live. Our bodies are designed to live and thrive in a healthy environment.
So what is a healthy diet?
A healthy diet is one that contains plenty of fruits and vegetables. It is also a diet that contains enough protein and carbohydrates. It does not contain too much sugar or fat. The ideal diet for a yogi would be one that contains 75% of the daily recommended allowance (DRA) for vitamins and minerals.
The DRA is a guideline for what you should be eating each day. It is based on the amount of calories that you burn each day. It is based upon your body weight and height.
What about fiber?
Fiber is important for the digestive system. Yogis are encouraged to eat more fiber. Fiber is found in whole grains, nuts, seeds, beans, peas, and some fruits.
What about carbohydrates?
Carbohydrates are necessary for energy. They are also important for the absorption of nutrients. Yogis are encouraged to include complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, vegetables, and fruits in their diets.
What about fats?
Fat is needed for the absorption of vitamins A, D, E, and K. It also helps to keep our skin moisturized. Yogis are encouraged to consume healthy fats such as olive oil, avocados, and nuts.
What about proteins?
Proteins are used for building muscles and repairing tissues. Yogis are encouraged to get most of their proteins from lean meats, fish, and poultry. Yogis are also encouraged to consume dairy products such as milk and cheese. Yogis should try to limit their intake of processed meat products such as hot dogs, sausages, bacon, and ham.
How much water should I drink?
Yogis should consume at least eight 8oz glasses of water per day. Yogis are encouraged to drink more water when they are exercising. Yogis should also try to avoid drinking sugary drinks.
What about supplements?
